Two Republican lawmakers from York County endorsed Molly Spearman in the race for state superintendent of education.

Sen. Wes Hayes and Rep. Gary Simrill backed Spearman, in a crowded race that has eight Republicans running.

“I am proud to throw my support behind someone that has a history of making our education better for students and parents alike,” said Hayes, the K-12 subcommittee chairman, in a press release issued by Spearman’s campaign. “Molly will fight for better technical education and work with parents and businesses to make our schools stronger.”

Spearman, of Saluda County, is the executive director of the S.C. Association of School Administrators.
