PLAY BALL: PREP BASEBALL PLAYOFFS

As the high school baseball playoffs start Thursday, a look at the top story lines:

A.C. FLORA: THREE IN A ROW?

Coach Andy Hallett and the Falcons are aiming for a third consecutive 3A title. They rely on the big bats of Donald Gillespie and Madison Stokes.

BLYTHEWOOD: ELLIS LEADS BENGALS

Pitcher Drew Ellis and the Bengals are the top seed in District 2, and the 17-6 squad could represent the Upper State.

GILBERT: 10 SENIORS LEAD TEAM

With Mitch Spires and Jared Williams among 10 seniors, the 20-2 Indians hope to improve on last year’s district runner-up finish.

LEXINGTON: SUMTER IN WAY OF REPEAT?

The reigning Class 4A champion Wildcats, led by CF Ryan Brown, will likely have to get past No. 1 Sumter to earn a shot at repeating.

RIVER BLUFF: MAKING NOISE IN FIRST SEASON

The first-year Gators, led by big-hitting Brandon Tillmon, look to pick up the program’s first postseason win against a tough draw in Lower State District 3.
