— One person was killed and another person was arrested following a Friday morning crash on Interstate 20 in Richland County.

Lamont Hampton, 52, of Columbia was killed when his vehicle, a 2004 Chrysler SUV, was struck from behind and knocked off the roadway into a tree at about 7 a.m. The crash occurred on westbound I-20 near 69 mile marker, between Monticello and Fairfield roads.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Hampton, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene from multiple trauma.

Perez Antwon Brooks of Sumter, who turned 29 on Thursday, was charged with felony DUI resulting in death in the crash. He was driving a 2008 Chrysler four-door that struck Hampton’s vehicle, according to Lance Cpl. David Jones with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Traffic along I-20 was blocked for much of the morning following the crash.
