Sunday letters: Appoint SC’s military leader

May 4, 2014

— I would like to thank Cindi Scoppe for exposing James Breazeale for who and what he is. He is not a legitimate candidate for an office — adjutant general — that is responsible for our safety and the well-being of our citizen soldiers.

Bob and Barbara Livingston have done incredible things for the men and women of the S.C. National Guard and the families of our guard members. It is a pity that Gen. Livingston must remove his uniform and go into campaign mode. There are so many issues that need to be addressed, and our adjutant general could better serve our country, state and guard members if he did not need to spend valuable time on the campaign trail.

I hope Sen. Gerald Malloy will reconsider his objection on legislation that would let the governor appoint the adjutant general — for the good of our nation and state.
