Monday letters: It’s OK to mix faith, football

May 5, 2014

Agnostics and atheists who protest the voluntary mix of faith and football have no proper objection to it. If they bothered to check, the critics would find that the athletes participate in the prayer group or Bible study in a non-compulsory manner.

If atheists and others don’t like a prayer or mention of God in their hearing, why can’t they just tune out? The Constitution contains nothing — yes, I’ve read it — that mandates hostility toward the expression of faith in the public square. Dabo Swinney, Steve Spurrier and Lou Holtz are correct.
