Tuesday letters: Young objectors should get a life

May 6, 2014

Here’s a suggestion for the 70 College of Charleston students who taped their mouths with duct tape and held their sit-in at Randolph Hall to protest their new president’s participation in Civil War reenactments: Get a life.

Take the duct tape off your mouth and plan to attend the Nov. 8-9 reenactment of the Secessionville battle of 1862 at Boone Hall Plantation. I’ve lived half my 70 years in the North, half in South Carolina. I applaud the volunteers who participate each year in the event and their dedication to educating so many people of our heritage and the sacrifices so many made during those years.

College of Charleston students should learn that just as their protest sit-in went on with no interference from the college, others support our rights by being involved in other ways. Respect their rights too, kids.
