Friday letters: SCEA yet to back a candidate

May 9, 2014

— As education superintendent candidate Sheila Gallagher’s candidacy has been linked to her past leadership of the S.C. Education Association, it is important to make some distinctions.

While we admire Ms. Gallagher’s thinking out of the box for funding solutions, her opinions do not reflect — and should not be perceived as — those of the S.C. Education Association. She no longer represents our organization.

We are grateful for Ms. Gallagher’s past service to our organization and wish her well in the future. We have not yet recommended a candidate in this race but plan to make an announcement later.

Jackie B. Hicks

President, S.C. Education Association
