Tuesday letters: Get help by first helping yourself

May 13, 2014

Cindy Boose’s April 27 letter (“Government not best at helping”) gets my vote, and I nominate her for office. I’m not the most educated individual, but I gained valuable expertise from my parents and ancestors. That is essential to becoming self sufficient without the support of government of others.

It is so powerful to help the needy. However, I question handouts to individuals who choose not to help the process. As the old saying goes, “help is just around the corner.” But one does not receive that help if he doesn’t get to that corner. People get help by first helping themselves.
