Two more Republican lawmakers endorsed Meka Childs in the state superintendent of education race.

Sen. Tom Davis, R-Beaufort, who served as Gov. Mark Sanford’s chief of staff, and Rep. Ralph Norman, R-York, both announced they are backing Childs, who worked under current Superintendent Mick Zais.

“I have worked in the State Senate over the past six years fighting to increase parents’ education choices for their children and having worked with Meka in Gov. Sanford’s administration, I know she is the most qualified individual to lead that same fight at the Department of Education,” Davis said in a news release issued by Childs’ campaign.

Childs is one of eight Republican candidates seeking the party’s nominee in June. She has received endorsements from Zais, Sen. Kevin Bryant, R-Anderson, Rep. Eric Bedingfield, R-Greenville, and Rep. Kris Crawford, R-Florence.

“Meka will fight to ensure that dollars are spent on our students because our children deserve better and the taxpayers of South Carolina deserve better,” Norman said in the release.
