Enjoy music in several different locations Thursday evening: The Rhythm and Blooms weekly May concert is Age Olde Trade, 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Riverbanks Zoo’s Botanical Garden, 500 Wildlife Parkway. Arts at Shandon begins its four-day May Chamber Music Series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday with the USC Graduate String ensemble at Shandon Presbyterian Church, 607 Woodrow St.

New exhibits at Columbia Museum of Art

See two new exhibitions at the Columbia Museum of Art, 1515 Main St. “Animal Instinct: Paintings by Shelley Reed” and “Cheer for the Home Team! Animal Mascots in the Collection” open Friday and run concurrently through Sept. 14. “Animal Instinct” adds a contemporary twist to the Old Master tradition of painting, and “Cheer for the Home Team” explores the role of animals who serve as college mascots. Forest Acres Festival

If you’re looking for something fun to do with the kids, check out the Forest Acres Festival, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the A.C. Flora Athletic Field, 1 Falcon Drive. The free carnival will offer pony rides, animal mascots, face painting, magic shows, music and more. Food and drink will be available from local restaurants.
