COLUMBIA, SC — Late Thursday, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said both suspects in an alleged sexual assault of a woman leaving Five Points last Friday had been identified and were cooperating with the investigation.
Earlier Thursday, the department reported that a 20-year-old woman who accepted a ride home from Five Points told deputies she was drugged and sexually assaulted.
In announcing that the two suspects had been identified, sheriff’s deparrtment spokesman Chris Cowan said both suspects were being cooperative and that “we are looking to determine further details of the incident. “
The victim told authorities that she was assaulted early last Friday after two suspects offered her a ride home.
During the drive, the victim said she was given water that she believes was laced with a “date rape drug,” according to a news release from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Once they arrived at her apartment on Southern Drive, both men allegedly sexually assaulted her, the news release said.
The men left the apartment, possibly in a black Acura. The suspects are described as Middle Eastern, with light olive skin and black hair. One was wearing a white T-shirt and dark jeans and the other was wearing a light-colored collared shirt with blue jeans.
