Dogs, owners compete in a fun, furry fundraiser

May 18, 2014

Pets Inc. and SC Pride are pairing up for a fundraiser that puts a unique stamp on the “Toddlers and Tiaras” phenomenon.

Puppies and Tiaras is a beauty pageant for dogs and their owners – all dressed in pageant regalia.

The pageant begins at 3 p.m. at TLC Sports Bar & Grill and features three rounds of competition – an introductory walkabout, the evening gown portion (although matching track suits have been worn before), and a canine inspection done by one of the female impersonator emcees.

Prizes will be awarded in each category. In addition, the audience can vote with dollar bills for their favorite dog-and-owner duo. The dog that raises the most money will be named the People’s Choice award winner. The Grand Prize winner will receive $250.

Cocktails will be served to the humans. Water and treats will be available for the canines.

Admission to the event is $5. Registration of dogs is also $5. The organizers hope that attendees will also bring pet food donations for Pets Inc.

TLC Sports Bar & Grill is at 936 Stadium Road near Williams-Brice Stadium. Doors will open at 2 p.m.
