COLUMBIA, SC — The victim of an overnight shooting in Columbia has been identified, officials say.
Shamoray Antonio Robinson, 18, of Columbia, died at the scene of the shooting, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said in a statement released Sunday.
The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. at 7424 Garners Ferry Road, near I-77.
The suspect, Nicholas Reed Moses, 19, was charged earlier Sunday with involuntary manslaughter and the unlawful carrying of a pistol, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said.
Both the suspect and victim, who has not been identified Sunday had attended a party earlier along with several other individuals, Timmons said.
During the party, an argument between Moses and an unidentified third person took place. As a result, deputies with the Richland County Sheriffs Department responded and shut down the party, Timmons said. Both Moses and Robinson the victim then left the party along with the others.
While driving on Garners Ferry Road, the unidentified person pulled alongside the victims vehicle and began arguing again with Moses. Moses allegedly pulled out a gun, causing it to discharge and unintentionally striking the driver of the vehicle, Robinson, Timmons said.
Officers with the Columbia Police Department arrived minutes later to find Robinson unresponsive beside his vehicle. Witnesses told officers that Moses ran from the scene after the shooting.
Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
Moses was being held Sunday at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
The Columbia Police Department is continuing to investigate.
