SC Gov Nikki Haley

MARY ANN CHASTAIN — AP

— By refusing Medicaid expansion, what Gov. Nikki Haley is doing or planning to do will, at best, improve health care the slowest, most inefficient, way possible (typical for us in South Carolina), At worst, she is intentionally depriving many in our state of good health care, and that is immoral.

It is immoral because she has the power to make a difference in the lives of the uninsured and possibly save some lives, but she won’t because her rigid ideological viewpoint prevents her from empathizing with the uninsured and underinsured.

Unfortunately, she is just like many of our former rather short-sighted governors and legislators and will — like they did with civil rights — put up roadblocks to delay the inevitable, wasting tons of taxpayer money fighting another lost cause that deserves to be lost because the arch of history surely bends toward justice.
