Sunday letters: Benghazi ‘trut’ won’t make a difference

June 1, 2014

Charles Krauthammer

— In his May 13 column (“Benghazi: How to do the hearings right”), Charles Krauthammer concludes that “the country deserves the truth.” However, his concern with the backfiring effect on the GOP is political.

As former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton brazenly said during a previous hearing, “what difference does it make?” Even if the “truth” is revealed — which many believe was scurrilous behavior of the administration in an election year — it will not make a difference in the election later this year or in the presidential election of 2016.

Time and again, the electorate has demonstrated a short memory and poor judgment. Facts are thrown by the wayside in favor of blind political zeal.
