— A 2-year-old Richland County boy drowned over the weekend in a home swimming pool, county coroner Gary Watts reported Sunday.

“At this time, everything points to a tragic accident,” Watts said.

Watts identified the boy as Jeremy S. Myers Jr. of 102 Windsor Crest Road, Columbia.

“It appears that the victim went outside with his 3-year-old sister after the sister was able to move a plastic piece of children’s furniture to the door, climb up on the furniture and unlock the door,” Watts said.

Watts said the parents were asleep at the time, and the children had gotten up early and were able to slip outside through what was supposed to be a secured passageway.
