Richland man pistol-whipped, then shot early Sunday

— A Richland County man was shot in the lower body after another man pistol-whipped him Sunday around 6 p.m. with a handgun, a Richland County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.

The wounded man was taken to Palmetto Health Richland with non-life-threatening injuries, the spokesman said. Sheriff’s investigators were searching for a known suspect. The incident took place in the 1400 block of Peeples √Street, which is just north of the city of Columbia, off Monticello Road.
