— A man was taken to the hospital after being trapped in a piece of machinery at the chicken processing plant for almost two hours, according to West Columbia Fire Chief Wyatt Coleman.

“We got the call about 11:55 p.m. Tuesday night that an employee was trapped in machinery,” Coleman said.

The man is an employee at the House of Raeford Farms INC, which is located at 441 Sunset Blvd. in West Columbia.

Coleman said the Columbia Fire Department was called in to assist.

“It took them about an hour and 50 minutes to free the man from the machinery,” Coleman said.

The man was alive and conscious when he was transported to Palmetto Health Richland, according to Coleman.
