Thursday letters: Livingston has served well

June 5, 2014

.

— Thank you for endorsing Gen. Bob Livingston, the superior candidate to lead the S.C. Army and Air National Guard. No adjutant general ever came into the position better educated or with more command and leadership experience.

Gen. Livingston’s first three years in office demonstrated dedication, integrity and loyalty to soldiers and their families. Professionalism earned respect from active-duty generals, the other 53 adjutants general and elected officials.

Gen. Livingston commanded at every level, company through brigade. As commander of the 218th Infantry in Afghanistan, he led a Task Force of 9,000 soldiers from 18 countries. Since 2011, he has overseen deployments, maintained units’ strength and maximized readiness for federal and state missions.

Responsibilities of this office are sometimes misunderstood or unappreciated, since the National Guard is in the news when it responds to calamities or combat. But the adjutant general also oversees youth camps and GED programs for teens, and houses the S.C. Emergency Management Agency.

It’s imperative that voters return Gen. Bob Livingston to office. He is the only candidate qualified to keep the National Guard prepared for our nation's uncertain and ambiguous challenges. He is a leader, family man and patriot who lives by mission first, soldiers always.
