It can be depressing to leave your office after a long day and seeing the same old quiet street. If youre lucky enough to be working along Main Street on Thursday, June 5, consider yourself warned: your post-work view is going to be a whole lot better.
Thats because about the time youre leaving, the June edition of First Thursdays on Main will be getting started. Instead of tired office workers meandering to their cars, the sidewalks from Main Street to City Hall will be filled with music, food, art and cold drinks. Even if you dont work along Main Street, heres why you should attend:
Great music. No tickets. Well have everything from DJs to the S.C. Philharmonic, said event founder and manager Mark Plessinger, who owns Frame of Mind, an eyeglass studio and art gallery on the 1500 block. Need more? Bwoy Levens album release party will be held on the 1600 block outside of the Cigar Box.
Delicious food, inside and out. There will be lots of food trucks on hand, but you can also sit down and eat, Plessinger said. Oak Table, for instance, will be offering two-for-one appetizers and Wine Down on Main will be partnering with Sumter Streets Crepes and Croissants.
Lots of drink specials. Stop by Cantina 76 for two-for-one house margaritas, Bourbon for special First Thursday punch and white wine sangria at Good Life Cafe. Special festival rules mean its legal on Main Street during the festival to drink beer or wine on the street, as long as your beverage is in a plastic cup.
More art than you can imagine, from both established and up and coming artists.
