Chapin student barred from graduation

Columbia - The StateJune 5, 2014

— A Chapin High School student was barred from taking part in graduation Thursday due to the smell of alcohol on the student’s breath, school officials said.

The unidentified student escorted from the ceremony at Carolina Coliseum without arrest, Lexington-Richland 5 spokesman Mark Bounds said.

School officials did not contact police because no one saw the student consume alcohol. The student allegedly told officials he'd had alcohol the night before.

Attendees said the student was stopped before he crossed the stage and they wondered why.
