The Columbia Marathon began at 7:15 Saturday in the Vista. The swift and the determined endured 26.2 miles. Supporters dotted the course to cheer on the runners. Finishers earned medals for their tremendous effort, along with the title of marathoner.

Pink on the Green Celebrity Golf Tournament: Monday at The Woodlands Golf and Country Club, 100 Norse Way. Format is four-man captain’s choice. Registration/check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. with tee time at 10 a.m. (shotgun start). Cost is $250 per person (registration gifts include two round-trip airline tickets and a three day/two night vacation package to Las Vegas). 13th annual Limitless Sports’ Ski Clinic at Lake Murray: Ski clinic for special needs children and adults, 9 a.m. Friday at Woodmen of the World, 2000 Johnson Marina Road, Chapin. Participants and their families will enjoy waterskiing on an adaptable ski, tubing and kayaking. Lunch will be provided. Open to age 6 and older. S.C. Peach Festival Road Race: 5K Run/Walk, 10K Run and Kids Run, beginning at 7:30 a.m. July 19 at Limestone College Timken Center Gymnasium, O’Neal at Griffith Street, Gaffney. Registration is $10-$25.;

Tom Hoskins Memorial Sprint Triathlon: July 26 at the NorthWest Family YMCA, 1501 Kennerly Road, Irmo. This triathlon and duathlon includes a 350-yard swim in an indoor pool, a 13-mile bike race and a 5K ending at the Y’s Splash Pad.


SOAR Youth Summer Soccer: Co-ed youth soccer (ages 5-17), July 1-31 at SOAR, 5637 Bush River Road. Technical training sessions on Tuesday nights and open play games on Thursday nights. Register online at

Maxcy Gregg Swimming Pool: The Maxcy Gregg Swimming Pool, 1651 Park Circle, has opened for the summer. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays, 2-6 p.m. Sundays and 1-7 p.m. Mondays-Fridays.
