Deputies arrest ‘armed, dangerous’ gunman in Sumter County

— A manhunt is now over in Sumter County after an early Wednesday morning shooting.

Deputies arrested Charles Gary Singletary III, 18, who was wanted in connection with a shooting on Pearson Road, according to Chief Deputy Hampton Gardner.

Singletary was apprehended around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning without incident, Gardner said

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting on Pearson Road, which is near the Clarendon County line, around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, Gardner said.

Deputies say they found two people had been shot and a third person with an ear laceration.

All three victims were taken to the hospital, according to Chief Deputy Gardner. One victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Gardner said Singletary, who fled the scene on foot,

was considered armed and dangerous.
