— Columbia Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting earlier this month in The Vista.

Nicholas Maurice Dickerson, 24, was arrested just before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at an apartment complex on Monticello Road, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Dickerson has been charged with breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature, unlawful carrying of a pistol and discharging a firearm in city limits, Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said.

Holbrook said Dickerson is accused of firing a handgun into a crowd of people on June 1 while at 1231 Lincoln St., which Columbia police say is a vacant building at the corner of Lincoln and Lady streets.

Police department spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said the evidence of a gun being fired was found at that location, which is about a block away from Lucky 13 at 920 Lady St., at Lady and Park streets. She declined to say what the evidence was.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation at Lucky 13 earlier that same day.

The incident happened just before 2 a.m. June 1 when officers assisting with crowd control at Lucky 13 heard what sounded like gunshots near Lincoln and Lady streets, Jennifer Timmons, a Columbia Police Department spokeswoman, said.

Officers collected evidence and located property damage but no victims at the time of the incident.

Police say Dickerson is expected to be taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
