sellis@thestate.comJune 11, 2014

— Columbia is under a flash flood warning until at least 8 p.m. as heavy thunderstorms move slowly through the area.

The area will see heavy rains for several hours as the storm moves north and northeast at about 15 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Winds gusting at around 35 mph are accompanying the storm.

Severe weather is threatening most of the East Coast tonight. The AccuWeather Global Weather Center predicts continued showers and thunderstorms throughout the night across much of the East, from Georgia to Pittsburgh, with more severe weather possible Thursday and Friday.
