New slides open at Carowinds waterpark

From staff reportsJune 21, 2014

— Two new water slides opened Friday in Boomerang Bay, Carowinds’ waterpark.

The new slides stand more than 4 stories high at the popular water park.

Surfer’s Swell travels 263 feet, with riders plunging through a tunnel then swooping up onto an angled wall that mimics the sensation of catching an ocean wave. Guests then enter a final tunnel for a splash-landing into a pool.

Dorsal Fin Drop takes riders on a whirling adventure in a curved tunnel that blasts them into a bowl. Like a shark circling its prey, guests spin and swirl before sliding into the corkscrew exit.

The slides are the first phase of a multi-year, multimillion dollar capital investment plan at the park initiated by its parent company, Cedar Fair.

Boomerang Bay now offers two wave pools, 13 waterslides, and two kiddie splash pools with more than 2 million gallons of water.

The slides are not for the littlest visitors. Guests need to stand 4 feet tall in bare feet to ride on a single inner tube.
