A 34-year-old man was arrested Sunday — his birthday — on attempted murder charges after deputies say he shot his girlfriend.

Bryan Cooke turned himself in at the RCSD headquarters on Two Notch Road.

According to a press release from the sheriff's department, Cooke and his girlfriend were arguing early Friday morning when the altercation became physical. Cooke, according to deputies, pushed the victim to the ground and got into a vehicle. When she approached the vehicle, he fired several shots, striking her in the lower body.

She was transported to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Cooke was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he received a $100,000 surety bond.
