VINCENT GIORDANO

— A May 21 Metro brief (“Officials look into alleged negative comments about student’s picture by teachers”) referred to what teachers supposedly said about an Airport High School senior’s graduation photo that included her son.

The alleged negative comments teachers made might not have been appropriate, but this student could have privately taken pictures of herself anywhere but school. Give her credit for graduating, but our society should not be condoning younger adults getting pregnant while in high school, which is what publishing such a picture does.

While she managed to graduate high school, continuing her education will be much harder. The saying “it takes a village to raise a child” is changing to “it takes a taxpayer to raise a child.” Please talk to your children. Encourage them to empower themselves, instead of becoming part of the system.
