Sunday letters: Be fair when criticizing VA

June 29, 2014

.

— I am an 84-year-old disabled veteran. I have received good treatment at Dorn VA Medical Center.

I do not doubt the problems and statistics that you publish. I hope they can and will be corrected.

I do have a problem with the criticism of the delay in processing new claims. The media do not inform the people of the number of discharges from Iraq and Afghanistan who are applying for disability for post traumatic stress syndrome. No war wounds, no lost limbs; in fact no physical injury whatsoever.

Some few may actually be shell-shocked, as it was called in World War II and the Korean War. But the majority of these claimants are seeking a check.

Be as critical of the VA as is justified. Be fair to the VA on these slow claims.
