Some political fireworks planned for today just ahead of the Fourth:
• Taking a break from helping create historical-themed football trophies (see below), Texas Gov. Rick Perry visits South Carolina again with a swing through the Charleston area. The 2016 White House hopeful tours the Medal of Honor Museum at 1:30 p.m., holds a business roundtable at Water Missions International in North Charleston at 3 p.m. and speaks at the Dorchester County GOP Big Bang BBQ in Summerville at 6 p.m. Gov. Nikki Haley will introduce Perry at the barbecue.
• Haley's re-election campaign has a 10 a.m. news conference planned at Shealy Truck Center in Columbia where she will be joined by small business owners and advocates.
• USC Upstate students plan to protest funding cuts that now have hit the school's child development center. Students and faculty earlier protested when administrators closed a women's and gender center that hosted a gay-themed symposium this year.
