Thursday letters: Homeless veteran seeks VA’s help

July 3, 2014

.

— I have been trying to establish a liaison between myself and the Homeless Veterans Program at Dorn VA Medical Center.

I have sent numerous e-mails regarding the fact that I have been homeless for more than three years and was recorded into the system as being homeless for less than one year, which disqualifies me for receiving the one and only benefit that I could truly use through this program.

I have written to veterans’ advocates. I feel like they are classifying me as a criminal just because I am homeless, and I had better do what they tell me to do or I will be out of the program. I have literally had doors slammed in my face and have been told that they have no time to deal with me.

What good is this program if it is only going to demoralize me and throw me back into a homeless state?
