WIS-TV on Sunday released a statement about the departure of former anchor and reporter Ben Hoover, who told fans he was leaving the station Friday.

“During the last several days much has been posted on social media about Ben Hoover’s departure from WIS news, much of it erroneous.

“However, we simply cannot engage in a public conversation regarding details of Ben’s departure from WIS TV. It is a private personnel matter.”

WIS released the statement, which also wished Hoover well, on Sunday afternoon. On Friday, fans had demonstrated in front of the WIS building on Gervais Street. Hoover told fans on his Facebook page Thursday that Friday was his last day on the station, but he didn’t appear on any Friday broadcasts.
