— Orangeburg County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating after a body was found in a corn field off Farm Field Road in Holly Hill.

A concerned citizen, who was working in the area along Farm Field Road, smelled the stench of something decaying around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said.

“The individual followed the stench and located a shoe in a ditch,” Ravenell said. “The person called law enforcement, and upon our arrival, we located human remains behind a bush.”

Ravenell said officers have not been able to positively identify the individual and are not ruling anything out.

More details will be released as they become available, Ravenell said.
