Cherry Road reopens after car crashes into utility pole

The HeraldJuly 9, 2014

Cherry Road has reopened, nearly seven hours after a car crashed into a utility pole.

Power was restored to homes on along Cherry Road around 7 p.m. and authorities re-opened the stretch that was shut down after the wreck.

City officials say nearly 600 nearby residents and some businesses were without electricity earlier Wednesday while workers fixed a utility pole. A driver crashed into the pole just before noon.

The stretch of Cherry Road between Charlotte Avenue and Myrtle Drive was closed for several hours during the crash investigation and utility pole repairs.

Rock Hill Police encouraged drivers to avoid the area until the road reopened.
