Friday letters: Television news is a business

— WIS-TV's decision not to renew the contract of one of its anchor people should not be a surprise.

But it is, perhaps because many viewers don’t understand that television news is a business. It is a business that relies on advertisers who desire an audience. And when one of those anchor people fails to deliver the eyeballs of the desired demographic, change occurs.

What we are witnessing now is change. It’s not the first time, and it won’t be the last. Protests at the station won’t affect the decision. Perhaps it’s past time that people consider whether TV is the best place to get their news.
