— Brig. Gen. David P. Glaser has been appointed chief of staff of U.S. Army Central - formerly Third Army - based at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter.

Glaser was promoted to a one-star general after serving as a colonel as deputy director of the Ministry of Interior Advisory Group, Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan, International Security Assistance Force. The ministry is designed to forge long-term relationships that strengthen a partner state’s defense ministry.

Glaser will replace Brig. Gen. Rex Spitler. Spitler departed Friday for an assignment as deputy chief of staff of the Army’s Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Eustis, Va. The command oversees operations at Fort Jackson and other training bases.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Glaser was commissioned in 1985 after completing Army ROTC at Xavier University. He has served across the United States, Europe and Iraq in addition to Afghanistan. He is married to his wife, Susan.
