High school soccer: Battle of Carolinas set for Saturday

The South Carolina girls and boys teams would like to turn things around in the eighth annual Clash of the Carolinas all-star matches Saturday at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island.

The matches pit 18-player all-star teams from each state, and the Tar Heel teams have enjoyed a decided advantage in recent years. In the girls matches, North Carolina owns a 5-1-1 lead; the N.C. boys have won the past three years to take a 3-1-3 lead.

The girls game is 2 p.m., the boys game is 4 p.m.

Players on the S.C. girls team from the Midlands include: Alex Baker, Blythewood; Angela Downs, Spring Valley; Kathleen Gant, Dreher; Kate Harrington, Chapin; Logan Lewis, White Knoll; and Haley Naughton, Lexington.

Midlands boys players include: Christian Deany, River Bluff; Dillon Garcia, Blythewood; and Adrian Thompson, Spring Valley.
