— The Richland County Sheriff’s Department’s Traffic Safety Unit will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints both Monday and Tuesday nights in an effort to change drivers’ behaviors.

Sgt. Curtis Wilson, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman, said the checkpoints will be set up in the Olympia, Bush River Road, Arrowwood Road and Colonial Life Boulevard areas. The Traffic Safety Unit is conducting today’s traffic safety checkpoint in an effort to reduce speeding in school zones as well as business and residential areas.

Wilson said the unit is working to curb the amount of traffic collisions and fatalities related to those collisions by making everyone a defensive driver, wearing their seatbelts and slowing down.
