Wednesday letters: VA hasn’t been very helpful

July 16, 2014

.

After 38 years, I finally had to put in for my Veterans Affairs benefits. I have papers that say I have post-traumatic stress disorder, and I dealt with it until I couldn’t handle it any more. Jobs were hard to hold on to.

It’s been a challenge dealing with the VA. I’ve been trying for three years to get my birth date corrected on my medical records. I was hospitalized, and the doctor never showed up; the wrong medicine was sent to my house; it takes 2 1/2 to 3 years to get an optometrist appointment. There is too much more to mention; I’m lost in the files. Don’t ask for help from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
