A man was taken into police custody early Friday after leading a trooper on a brief chase when he failed to stop for a speeding violation in Horry County, according to authorities.
The man is jailed pending formal charges being filed in the incident, said Sgt. Jeff Benton with the Horry County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sun News does not identify a suspect until formal charges are filed.
A trooper with the S.C. Highway Patrol attempted to stop the man for speeding about 1 a.m. Friday on S.C. 905, Benton said. The man refused to stop and turned down a “small, narrow dirt road.”
Speeds reached in excess of 100 mph during the brief chase, Benton said. The man’s vehicle ran off the road, overturned and he was briefly trapped inside the vehicle.
Rescue crews were able to free the man, who was not hurt, and he was taken into police custody, Benton said.
More information will be posted as it is released by authorities.
