Columbia senior’s injury a painful blessing

After breaking left ankle, Payne watches Capitals from sidelines, looks forward to playing at USC

Chris Payne knew he was seriously injured when his leg began to roll under him. The Columbia High senior was running down the sideline in the Capitals’ Sept. 16 game against Brookland-Cayce when he broke his ankle while being pushed out of bounds.

After delaying his announcement from last week, South Pointe defensive back Stephon Gilmore (6-foot-2, 195 pounds) is scheduled to reveal his choice of either USC or Alabama Tuesday or Wednesday.
