    <title>Columbia eyes new slogan to attract conventions</title>

    <description>The friendliness may be flowing in Columbia, but the tourist dollars aren&amp;#8217;t, compared to the city&amp;#8217;s rivals for conventions.&lt;p/&gt;So the new head of the tourism authority wants to bag the &amp;#8220;Columbia Riverbanks Region: Where Friendliness Flows&amp;#8221; slogan and replace it with something that will be more effective with convention professionals.&lt;p/&gt;&amp;#8220;We want to create a buzz with planners,&amp;#8221; said Ric Luber, who became president and CEO of the Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports and Tourism 10 months ago. &amp;#8220;We want something that will create identity.&amp;#8221;&lt;p/&gt;The authority paid a Virginia advertising agency $70,000 in 2004 to come up with &amp;#8220;Where Friendliness Flows.&amp;#8221;&lt;p/&gt;But Kelly Barbrey, the authority&amp;#8217;s vice president for sales and marketing, said it didn&amp;#8217;t tell meeting planners anything special about the city and didn&amp;#8217;t catch their attention.</description>
