Here’s who will appear on the ballot in the Midlands in November for federal, state and local municipal elections. Not listed, but also appearing on the ballot, are candidates for seats on the eight Midlands school boards.
Lexington and Richland County election officials, along with officials from around the state, will be on hand to register voters during a Voter Education Kickoff at the state Capitol Wednesday. The registration drive, which will take place on the north grounds of the State House near Gervais and Main streets, will also include demonstrations of touch-screen voting machines. Snacks including ice cream, popcorn and water will be provided.
The Labor Day weekend starts the campaign calendar for local races, and in Richland County, the contest to watch is Republican Mike Montgomery’s bid for a second term on County Council.
Batesburg-Leesville Primary School registration for new students to the district and returning students who did not register on Aug. 5-6 will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Career and Technology Education Building at Batesburg-Leesville High School.
Twenty-six seats are up for election in November on the seven school boards in Richland and Lexington counties. The filing deadline was Aug. 15.
