TWO OF THE STATE'S TOP prospects made official visits over the weekend to out of state schools.
Byrnes running back Marcus Lattimore went to Penn State and was not due back home until late Sunday. He also has visited Auburn and will visit Oregon on Jan. 16. He has not decided on his final two official visits. He is considering USC, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida State. Lattimore likely will be at USC on Saturday for the Florida game.
Manning defensive back John Fulton was at Florida over the weekend. He will see the Gators again this weekend when he takes his visit to USC. He has been to LSU and also likes Alabama and Georgia. Before the visit to Gainesville, Fulton was favoring USC over Alabama.
Auburn continues its strong pursuit of USC-bound offensive lineman Eric Mack of Calhoun County. Two recruiters visited the school to check on Mack who has been holding to his commitment while visiting other schools. Mack has visited Auburn. Saturday he was at Clemson unofficially for the Florida State game. He plans to be at USC this Saturday for the Florida game.
If he's not playing in a state championship game, he plans to make a return trip to Auburn for the Alabama game. And a day later he plans to be back in Columbia for the Clemson-USC game. Mack plans to schedule visits with USC, Clemson and Kentucky at some point.
While at Calhoun County on Friday, the Auburn coaches offered athlete Shamier Jeffery, the brother of USC freshman receiver Alshon Jeffery. Jeffery also has offers from USC, Kentucky and Tennessee.
Offensive lineman Max Garcia of Norcross, Ga., visited to Clemson over the weekend and now will decide between the Tigers, Maryland and Vanderbilt.
"I like Clemson because it's close to home," Garcia said last week. "They have a need at left tackle and some other positions, so it's a place I think I could impact the program in the first couple of years."
Clemson is one of the schools now being considered by defensive lineman LaCraig Brown (6-4, 261) of Monroe, La., after his de-commitment from Arkansas. He still is considering the Razorbacks along with Alabama, LSU and TCU. He will visit TCU on Nov. 13. He has not decided on other visits.
USC continues to press the issue with defensive back Kenny Ladler of Stone Mountain, GA. Ladler is a Vanderbilt commitment, but he plans to be at the USC-Florida game Saturday. A favorable impression by the Gamecocks could swing Ladler their way. Ladler will visit Vanderbilt for their game with Kentucky.
USC-bound defensive lineman Kelcy Quarles of Greenwood had planned to go to Tennessee on Saturday on an unofficial visit but went to the Clemson game instead. Quarles says his Gamecock commitment remains strong, but Tennessee continues to recruit him hard. He plans to be at USC on Saturday.
Beaufort linebacker Justin Parker planned to get up to Clemson on Saturday night after taking the SAT earlier in the day. He is scheduled for a visit to USC this coming weekend. Last week, he said he is favoring the Gamecocks over Clemson. He was scheduled to visit Colorado on Oct. 30 but didn't make that trip.
Tight end Bo Whitney (6-5, 235), a Laurens product attending Hargrave (Va.) Prep plans to enroll at Clemson in January and join the football program as a greyshirt with a chance to earn a scholarship. Whitney also plays quarterback and might get a look there as well. Whitney says he will enroll at Clemson unless he gets an offer from a school he likes. He has had contact with USC, Virginia and Kansas State.
Defensive lineman Ego Ferguson Jr. of Hargrave plans to take an unofficial visit to USC on Saturday. He has visited LSU and will visit Notre Dame and Oklahoma later this month. He also might take a visit to Miami.
Clemson has offered Hargrave offensive lineman Laurence Gibson (6-7, 300), and he is looking at a visit with the Tigers on Nov. 20. Gibson is a native of Sierra Vista, Ariz. He also has offers from Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Kent State, UTEP, South Alabama and Western Carolina. Gibson will be a mid-year enrollee.
Defensive lineman Ainsley Miller of Concord, N.C., was set to visit Clemson for the Florida State game. He was at a game earlier in the season and favors the Tigers, who have not offered. He also likes West Virginia and New Mexico. He has a visit with the Mountaineers set for December.
Darlington defensive back Victor Hampton is scheduled for a visit to USC this weekend. He did not visit Tennessee over the Halloween weekend but hopes to reschedule.
Athlete Ryan White of Tallahassee, Fla., wants to set visits with USC, Florida, Ole Miss and Southern Miss. He was at Florida for the Arkansas game earlier in the season. White plays quarterback, but USC likes him as a slot receiver.
Linebacker Antoine Pozniak has been on USC's watch list all season, and he plans to be at the Florida game. He has not been offered but feels once his latest grade report is in, the offers will come. He has taken an unofficial visit to Buffalo.
USC is showing interest in Byrnes tight end Craig Weick (6-6, 220). Recruiter Jay Graham checked on Weick last week after reviewing film. East Carolina also is showing interest.
Interest in defensive end Adrian Hubbard of Norcross, Ga., continues to grow. Alabama is the latest major program to offer. He also holds offers from Clemson, USC, Florida State, N.C. State and Kentucky. Hubbard was scheduled for an unofficial visit to Alabama over the weekend and plans to be at the USC-Florida game this weekend. He also plans to visit Florida State. Hubbard plans to set two of his visits with USC and Alabama.
Athlete Lucky Radley of Woodland Hills, Calif., was scheduled to visit North Carolina over the weekend. He also wants to visit USC. He also has offers from Arizona, Colorado State, Iowa State, San Diego State, Western Michigan, Utah, San Jose State, Nevada and Utah State.
Defensive lineman Tra Thomas of Wadesboro, N.C., has set a visit with Michigan State for Nov. 20. He also is down with Duke for Dec. 4. Clemson also is an offer along with East Carolina, Louisville, Marshall, Navy, Elon and Appalachian State.
Dillon Shrine Bowl wide receiver Antuawn Blue planned to be at the Clemson-Florida State game, and he has been to a couple of USC games. Clemson likes Blue as a receiver while USC sees him as a cornerback. Neither has offered.
Shrine Bowl tight end Ethan Farmer of Tabor City, N.C., likes Clemson, Tennessee, North Carolina, N.C. State, Virginia Tech, Alabama and Duke. He has not scheduled any visits.
USC wide receiver target Marquel Wade of Jacksonville, Fla., committed last week to Arkansas.
Clemson athlete target Keenan Allen of Greensboro, N.C., committed to Alabama over the weekend.
USC is checking out junior kicker Matt Ehasz of Kingsland, Ga. He also is drawing interest from Wake Forest, North Carolina and Virginia.
Junior fullback Jacob Baxter of Brookland-Cayce will make an unofficial visit to USC for the Florida game. Baxter will visit Tennessee on Nov. 21 and Georgia Tech on Nov. 28.
Defensive back Tyler Walker (5-10, 165) of Fort Dorchester was scheduled to visit North Carolina Central over the weekend. He has been to Gardner-Webb.
Virginia and Kentucky recently requested film on Sumter quarterback Stephen Curtis. He has visited The Citadel, Liberty and Elon.
Lower Richland quarterback Cam Worthy (6-3, 190) has drawn some interest from Georgia Tech and recently took an unofficial visit there.
Basketball news. Jason Morris of Augusta made his official visit to Georgia Tech over the weekend and will make a decision between the Yellow Jackets and Clemson by the end of the week. He made an official visit to Clemson last month. Clemson recruiter Frank Smith visited Morris at his school in Connecticut last week. This month's signing period for basketball is Nov. 11-18.
