USC baseball player arrested in Five Points

A USC baseball player was arrested early today in Five Points on charges of public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, Columbia police said.

Casey Matthew Rihn, 21, was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center after being treated at Palmetto Health Richland for scrapes to the side of his face, police spokesman Brick Lewis said.

Rihn was walking in the 700 block of Harden Street about 2 a.m. when he struck the back of a passing marked patrol car with his hands, Lewis said. Rihn continued striking the patrol car after it stopped and was told he was under arrest after the officer smelled alcohol on him, Lewis said.

Rihn tried pulling away and continued struggling after the officer put him face-down on the ground, Lewis said. He also was "belligerent" with EMS personnel who were called to the scene to treat his scrapes, Lewis said.

Rihn was released from the jail about 5 p.m. today on a personal recognizance bond, jail records show.
