Leading up to 2016 the issues in the spotlight even broke his way, with the looming threat of the Islamic State and other foreign-policy matters commanding attention.

The final occupier of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge in rural Oregon turned himself over to federal authorities on Thursday. As federal agents surrounded the refuge, audio from the final hours of the standoff was captured on a YouTube live broadcast. After three others turned themselves in, David Fry ultimately surrendered peacefully, ending the occupation that began on January 2nd.
