Satirical TV show host Stephen Colbert spent Friday at Fort Jackson, filming gags to accompany an upcoming stint in the Persian Gulf for his show, "The Colbert Report".

The Charleston native arrived for in-processing in a stretch limo, dropped his bag at his drill sergeant's feet and asked for a bellman, according to a news article posted at the Fort Jackson Web site.

Colbert and his crew filmed the celebrity as he was put through training exercises. His drill sergeant, Sgt. 1st Class Demetrius Chantz, said he was familiar with the show and did his best to play it straight.

Chantz said Colbert's physical performance was played for laughs, and not soldier-worthy.

Colbert said his upcoming visit to the Gulf, which will feature a week of shows from the region, is a chance to salute troops.

Comedy Central has not scheduled air dates for the shows.
