An 18-year-old man died after a one-car crash on Interstate 77 in Chester County around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the S.C. Highway Patrol reported.
Nathaniel Jay Mowrer of Denver, N.C., was driving an SUV north on I-77 when he went off the left side of the road near mile marker 53, Lance Cpl. Jeff Gaskin said.
Mowrer drove into the median, over-corrected, drove back into the median and flipped several times, Gaskin said.
He was taken by emergency helicopter to Palmetto Health Richland where he died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, Gaskin said.
A passenger in the SUV was taken to Piedmont Medical Center, Gaskin said. His name and condition were not available Sunday.
Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the crash at this time, Gaskin said. The speed limit is 70 mph.
The crash remains under investigation.
