Sex offenders tracked by new Web program

Tracking sex offenders in South Carolina has become a little easier.

The State Law Enforcement Division said Friday it is introducing a new online program that allows people to log on and see a map of registered offenders near any address entered.

Offender Watch brings up a map showing color photographs of registered offenders, along with the details of their offenses and any previous addresses. Officials said people will be able to sign up for e-mail alerts soon.

SLED maintains the state's sex offender registry on its Web site. Officials said all 46 S.C. sheriff's departments will be part of the new system by late November. On the Net:
