SC man driving wrong way on NY highway charged with DWI

The Associated Press

State police say a South Carolina man faces drunken driving charges after driving the wrong way on a Buffalo-area highway and colliding with a tractor-trailer

Troopers say 45-year-old Derrick Chisholm of Hardeeville was driving north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 190, the Niagara Thruway, when he crashed into a truck shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday just north of Buffalo.

Police say Chisholm suffered a hip fracture and was treated at a Buffalo hospital, where he was charged with driving while intoxicated. The truck driver suffered a minor head injury.

The crash shut down all of I-190's southbound lanes for three hours. All lanes were reopened around 5:30 a.m.
